Innovation and Sustainability
Adrian has been involved in Arup’s own thinking and approaches to sustainability for many years and led the ground breaking Low2No project in Finland, that explored the broader scoping of carbon and the importance of food and consumption to city design.
An accomplished Chartered Civil Engineer, Adrian has worked at Arup for over 25 years. He has broad expertise in structural design, sustainability and project delivery. He helps lead project teams to successful outcomes for clients though active collaborative approach and focus on value driven decision making.
Adrian specialises in identifying opportunities for innovation and sustainability. He is especially adept at the integration of multidisciplinary engineering aspects into projects to deliver innovation.
He has recently focused on the design and development of skills for multi-storey and large-scale timber projects and led the design of a new all timber gym for Sky in London. Adrian was responsible at Arup for the delivery of the New House for London and Wikihouse 4.0 projects for The London Design Festival.
Kevin J Bacon
Kevin brings with him over twenty years’ experience of the hospitality industry, including restaurants, leisure and consumer entertainment.
During this time he has been a main Board Director of The Restaurant Group PLC, co-founder of the highly successful Frankie and Benny’s brand, and Managing Director of Jamie Oliver International, where he was responsible for helping to expand the business into overseas markets.
Since 2010 Kevin has held the role of CEO of Urban Legacies who have developed a new game changing Leisure concept called Urban Adventure, soon to come to market in the UK, North America and Dubai.
He also has a specialist consulting practice, which focuses on industry due diligence mandates and providing commercial and operational overviews and opinion. Recent mandates include the purchase of Cote Restaurants Ltd and Byron Ltd.
Kevin currently holds Non-Executive Director positions at Thai Leisure Group, Film Forge Ltd, Snug Bars and The Good Egg restaurant. Other recent positions include Founder and NED of Flypay Ltd, Co-founder and NED of Whyte & Brown and NED of Ignite Group.
Michael joins the Advisory Board of GrowUp Urban Farms with 15 years’ experience in hydroponic farming. His family business in the Lee Valley, Villa Nursery, was founded in 1970 by his father and originally grew cucumbers.
Through new growing technologies, the business expanded in 1984 by building new aluminum glasshouses and, in an effort to increase harvest, introduced hydroponics. Villa Nursery now grows peppers under 14 acres of glass and supplies the major UK supermarkets, including their award winning salad and specialty peppers.
Michael and his brother Felice bring operational and food retailing supply-side experience. They are also at the forefront of alternative heating and lighting systems that will allow for more sustainable growing methods that reflect the ongoing need to be environmentally friendly.
